You loved your kitchen when you first moved into your home but now you dread going into your kitchen to fix a meal. How do you bring back that exciting feeling in your kitchen? There are several ways to do this. Here are some easy tips to update your kitchen so you can enjoy getting back into it again.
You want to be able to walk into your kitchen and feel inspired by the decor. It’s okay to change the look in your kitchen from time to time. If you like the look and you still feel inspired ten years down the road then leave the look. However, when you begin feeling bored and uncreative in the kitchen or you dread going into the kitchen to cook up a meal then you may need a new look. You don’t need to spend a ton of money on a new look. You simply need to change a few accents to create a new look. Treat yourself to a bouquet of fresh cut flowers from time to time. Flowers are an instant mood lifter and are fairly inexpensive if you choose the right one.
Something old, something new
Things always look better on television and in the stores but when you bring them home you have a hard time making that look work for you. Does this sound familiar? It happens to everyone when it comes to decorating. It’s not easy to get the look that will be right for your kitchen so you need to be creative. To do this you need to use your imagination and get creative. For example, if you love the color yellow in the kitchen, consider purchasing a large vase. Add enough lemons to the clear vase to fill it up completely. This is a simple look and you can use real lemons if you cook with lemons often or you can use artificial lemons instead.
You also need to keep a few of the old decorations and reuse them a different way. You can take a picture and place it in a new picture frame or outline the picture frame with scrapbook decorations.
It’s time to buy something new to give your kitchen a new look. When you look at your kitchen, what colors do you see? If you have multi-colors, you need to narrow it down to one main color. Multi-colors can not only be distracting but it can also affect the feel of your kitchen. Choose one color that you like best and accent in that color. Is the color you have now too dark? You may need to lighten the color especially in the spring or the summer. Save the dark or warm colors for fall or winter.
Table runners, placemats, and matching towels and oven mitts are important and you can use them to accent your new look. Choose a color that matches the main color you chose for the kitchen. For example, if you choose blue as your main color in your kitchen, accent with beige, yellow, or white.
Check the Floor
It's easy to overlook the kitchen floor. But a few rugs strategically placed can make a big difference to the overall feel of a room. And kitchen rugs are currently all the rage. One of our personal favorites for the kitchen is a braided rug – a pink braided rug is a very hot choice for this season.
Make Your Kitchen More Organized
Simplifying things in life is not a horrible thing to do. It makes life easier in so many ways. You can simplify just about everything. Over time, it’s easy to get into a routine or even a rut and when you realize that you are there, it is hard to get out. The kitchen is the same way. It is the most used room in the house and you need to find ways that you can make life simpler for you while you are in there.
You may have always stacked your plates in one particular cabinet but ask yourself why you did that and you probably can’t come up with a legitimate answer. Mix things up a little and put the plates in another cabinet for a change. The cups are the same way. Although they should always be kept in a cabinet close to your sink, they do not need to be kept on the left side; move them to the right.
Whether you are remodeling your kitchen or you just want to make life a little more organized start in the kitchen where you will prepare countless meals and snacks. The same room that you will listen to problems, warm up, cool down, and share laughs.
Your main goal is to get organized so purchase some organizational shelves or containers that you can use in your cabinet to help you keep everything organized. You want to make sure that the order you have everything in your kitchen is to make your kitchen more productive.
Drawers are nice to place things in but have you ever looked at your kitchen drawers and wondered how you can get the most out of them? Over time, the drawers can become cluttered and scattered with cooking utensils and different tools you may use to cook meals. How can you simplify and organize? Purchase drawer dividers to place into your drawers. These come in different sizes and lengths so you can personalize the drawers according to what is in them.
When the kids come home from school and you get in from work or running errands where does everything go? It usually gets dropped off at the kitchen on their way to get a snack. Then later on, everyone comes back to the kitchen to pick it back up so they can work on their tasks. During that time, you may have been given notes that you need to read and sign before school tomorrow. You need to create a message center that includes hooks that can handle jackets and book bags as well. Place bulletin boards and at least one hook per person underneath. You want to create a place that everyone knows that they have the responsibility of taking things to. Kids can learn this at a very early age and it can continue through school. You can paint this wall a different color so it can stand out a little but yet still match the decor.
Not everyone has a place to put their cookware. It usually gets stored in the oven, on the stove, or in the cabinet beside of the stove. Then you have to find it when you are ready to cook and by then things have become scattered. You can save yourself some time by purchasing a cookware rack to either hang from the ceiling, mount on the wall, or free stand on the counter. All of these options can create a modern look for your cookware that has everything at your fingertips.
