Let’s face it; a dollar is being stretched as far as it can these days. Everyone is doing their part to make it work from paycheck to paycheck. This usually means that extra curricular activities and trips are cancelled as well as shopping trips for the entire family. More people are shopping online to find the best deal and they are spending their money more cautiously. When it comes to home decor, you don’t need to give up shopping; you just need to shop more wisely.

If you have never shopped at thrift shops or second-hand dime stores, you are in for a treat. These stores have received a bad reputation for housing someone’s junk, however, inside you may find that a shop full of treasure awaits you.

Before you go shopping, you will want to take the time to decide on the look you want to create for your room. For example, you can go with a clean country look or a southwestern rustic look. You can create a lodge look in your room or a tropical look. There are several different ways you can decorate your room in order to create a wonderful place to sit and relax. Once you decide on a look, you can then head out to the second hand shops for your decor.

Thrift shops offer a lot of new and used items and it is more than clothing. You can purchase old suitcases of different sizes to display on the floor. When stacked up on top of each other, they can become part of a cottage decor. You can never have too many mirrors in your home. You may find a beautiful beveled edge mirror that has become an antique. You may stumble across home decorations from another country, like France or Spain.

The best thing about the thrift shops is you can purchase items for a fraction of what you would pay for it if you bought it at the store.

Once you find the look that you want, go back home and put it together. When you are done, search online for a modern area rug that will blend all your colors together and balance out the room. You can find a wide array of colored flokati rugs as well as bamboo rugs and other types of area rugs that will be perfect for your home.

The possibilities are endless when you experience the modern conveniences of shopping in a thrift shop. Why pay retail prices when you don’t have to? These items are sometimes hard to find but they could be the one thing you want in your decor the most. If you get tired of the same look, you can always change the look and not have a large expense in it. Your dollars can go further when you choose to shop at thrift shops. You can also find deals online as well; simply type in the product you are searching for and start searching.

Great ideas! I love shopping at gently-used stores and re-purposing furniture!

Thrift stores for me offer that one-of-a-kind decor; and especially a place that I can find vintage. But recently, I got my toaster oven at a thrift store--like new & stainless steal so the possibilities are endless. The prices are good but best of all it is a treasure hunt. Thanks for your informative article...monah
