A New Look For Your Kitchen

If you are tired of the way your kitchen looks, it can affect how much time and effort you put into it. You may not spend as much time in the kitchen that you once did and that leaves you dreading to fix meals or to have company over for some tea. After balancing your checkbook, you realize that you don’t have enough money in your account to go out and buy what you needto give your kitchen a new look.

The kitchen should be a place that you feel relaxed and creative. You want your kitchen to not only be inviting to your guests but yourself as well. Here are some tips to get the kitchen design you want without robbing your budget.

  • Paint the walls a different color. If your walls are white, then give them color. If your walls are colorful then paint it white. Changing the walls like this will make a big difference in your new look.
  • Paint the kitchen cabinets. Take the cabinet doors off and get the old paint brush out and give your cabinet doors a new look. The possibilities are endless. You can paint the cabinet doors white and stencil a design.
  • Reorganize your kitchen. You can do this by buying some different ways to organize your kitchen drawers and shelves.
  • Countertops can be expensive so change the look by what you sit on top of the countertops instead. You can keep it as simple as a vase full of flowers and a coffeepot. The more you have on your countertops the more crowded it will look so clean them off and put things away for a new look.
  • Place an area rug down in front of your sink, your stove, and your refrigerator to accent these stations.
  • Purchase curtains that you can see through or choose a valence. You want to keep the colors of your window curtains neutral. Color coordinating your kitchen is important but having too much color can be distracting. You need to balance the color by adding neutral or earth tones to the windows like cream, beige, and white.
  • Add more lighting to your kitchen. Lighting under the cabinets or in the corner is important. Lighting can put a different look on your dishes that you prepare. Home improvement stores have easy to do studio lighting that can be mounted under the cabinet. There is not permanent installation required. You simply mount the lights under the cabinet and then plug in the switch to turn the lights on and off. some lights come with lighting adjustments so you can change the lighting in your home to suit the time of day you are in your kitchen.
  • Add a backsplash around your stove in order to create a new look for your kitchen walls. This little added bonus can give you color in your kitchen. You can also add tile as your backsplash if you prefer tile.

Decorating Your Eating Area to Whet Your Appetite

It might be a little shocking to think that something as simple as colors can affect the way you eat. If you are a star cook and want your dining area to awaken the appetites of your dinner guests, then decorating with a warm red, orange and dark yellow scheme will do the trick. However if you are trying to lose weight or simply want to cut back of the amount you eat, the color blue is vital to your eating area design. It’s hard to believe that these factors really influence you; however, the way our minds work means that these little things that affect our subconscious can really make all the difference.

When you are preparing meals every night and are an avid or even professional cook, the best rooms in your home should be the kitchen and the dining room. How they are decorated can make all the difference as to how you experience and enjoy your food. In order to evoke your appetite and the appetites of those you may be serving food to, one of the most important things to include in your decor is warmer colors, especially the color red.

If you want an idea of the colors, think of Thanksgiving colors; they are also associated with eating and warmness among family at the dinner table, which is exactly what these colors tend to inspire. One color to avoid completely is the color blue. It will actually offset your appetite and reduce your cravings. To really heighten the effect, you can paint your walls a warm, darker red or orange. This will give your entire room a warm and hunger-inducing aura.

When choosing plates, go for duller, warmer-under toned white plates; plain ones are nice, but if you choose a detail color, stick with the reds, oranges, and yellows. The white plate will serve as a blank canvas on which to place the food. It will be a neutral background on which to place the colorful food you have prepared. Using these tips, you can be sure to have only the best meals in your warm color-schemed dining room.

On the contrary, if you aren’t looking to heighten you appetite but instead lower it, there is a completely different set of things to can do to help you accomplish this. In place of the warmer appetite-triggering colors, the hue to use with your plates, and even walls, is blue. The kinds of blue that work best are the more true blues, teals, and aquas. The cobalts and turquoises are best to decrease appetite. The reason this works is because there are no foods found in nature that have this color to them. So, naturally and instinctually, we tend to lose our appetite from the color blue. Covering the walls in your kitchen and where you eat can significantly and subconsciously lower your appetite and make you eat less. Also, the smaller plate you use, the less you will tend to eat. A full small plate seems like a full big plate to us, however there is less food in reality. To really jumpstart your diet, the color blue is good for you.
